Help

We invite you to participate in reaching out to others as we seek to step into God's emerging future for Foley UMC. We believe God is calling us to reach out to those in our community who are experiencing loss or who are struggling at this time. We will strive to keep this page updated as we discover needs. Please note that you may also visit foleyumc.org/give as Foley UMC is using our missions budget to partner with local organizations to help meet community needs.

Please scroll all the way through--needs are listed by date needed with ongoing needs at the end. Thank you for partnering with us as we seek to put love into action.

April 21-May 31, 2020 Fill the Truck Food Drop

The Young Families of Foley UMC are spearheading a food drive to assist Foley Elementary School families who are in need of food. The guidance counselor at the school has asked for our help in feeding families who have critical needs. She is in direct contact and will put the food in the hands of the families with the needs. Our job is to collect the food and deliver items to the school where it will be sanitized and given to the families. Our goal is to fill a truck full of food every week from now til May 31.

We will have drop off bins behind the Spirit Center (outside the kitchen doors) for you to safely drop off bags or boxes of food every day between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. We invite you to order extra food each week in your own grocery order or pick up extra items if you are out shopping. You can place bags of food in the bins and the bins will be emptied throughout the day for safekeeping. Please follow all recommended safety precautions for yourself. If you are not comfortable dropping off the food to the church, you may text or call Jenni Simonson (251-213-1194), Michelle Stanley (251-752-0605), or Marti Messick (251-554-3304) and they will make arrangements to come pick up the items from your front porch, carport, etc.

What items are needed? Nonperishable food items (no non-food items at this time) for quick meals for a family. See list for suggested items.

Printable food item list found here.

If you would like to help but are unable to get groceries, you can give financially online. Foley UMC will be augmenting the food donations through our missions budget.

May 1-July 1, Hygiene Kits Partnership

City Hope, Liberty, Forward, Foley UMC, and Genesis churches are partnering to meet a need in our own community.

Ecumenical Ministries has expressed a need for Hygiene Kits. The hope is we can come together and provide a total of 1000 Hygiene Kits that will be distributed to Ecumenical Ministries in Foley, Family First Transitional Housing, and Read the Red in Elberta. We will collect kits from May 1st to July 1st.

What goes in a kit? Please place the following items in a one gallon ziplock bag. The cost will be somewhere under $20.

  • Bar of soap

  • Stick of deodorant

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

  • Disposable razors

  • Small Shampoo and Conditioner

  • Small dish soap

  • A small note that lets the person know you are praying for them during this season of their life.

We will collect the Hygiene Kits behind the Spirit Center in a bin (just like the non-perishable food items for the elementary school). The bin will be monitored and items taken inside throught the day. Please drop off between 7 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
