The Galilean Service
66th Season Worship on the Beach
Sunday Mornings Mother’s Day (May 14) Thru Labor Day (Sept. 4)
7:30 A.M. Gulf Shores State Park
In 1951, The Foley Methodist Church congregation began a ministry on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico which continues 66 years later. Every Sunday morning at 7:30 (weather permitting) during the summer months, a worship service is held beneath a large wooden cross. This service is called the Galilean Service because Jesus also preached on a seashore, the shore of the Sea of Galilee.
On the East wall of the Sanctuary is located the Galilean stained glass window. Look at the window to see the cross, sea oats, a gull, waves and sand. These distinctive symbols represent this unique ministry of Foley United Methodist Church.
Although saddened by the loss of our beloved Walter Tatum who led the music for the Galilean Service for over 30 years, we are pleased to announce that Kim Tatum Kelly and Scott Tatum will be honoring their father’s memory by leading the music for the 2017 season. The Reverend William Watts will deliver the sermon on Mother’s Day, May 14.
Please share with others that this unique worship experience is here all summer rain or shine.
